Wedding Invitation Printing Styles

Which Invitation Printing Style is Right for You?

There are many items to consider prior to sitting down with a wedding invitation company to design your invitations. The two biggest things to consider are budget and style and so, we are going to review the current most popular options when it comes to printing styles:

Digital/Flat Printing:

This is generally the best option if you are on a budget and perfect if you are in a hurry. The ink lies flat and generally works better on smooth paper. Because of the way it’s printed, the ink colors and designs are limitless.

Thermography:

Thermography is a middle of the road option similar to engraving, but less expensive. Thermography uses special ink mixed with a powder compound that is raised with heat. It produces a “glossy” look instead of the engraved “matte” look and is not as detailed as an engraved invitation, but it also works as a great alternative to the higher cost engraved invitation.

Foil Stamping:

Foil Stamping is a process that includes heating foil to create dimension. Taking foil, heating it and stamping it onto the paper, creates the stamping and plates are generally created for each color to build the design. Because of the process, foil stamping tends to be costly but if you want gold or silver in your design, it tends to be the best option.

Letterpress Printing:

Letterpress printing is the opposite of engraving in that the design is pressed into the paper instead of a raised design. Letterpress generally uses 100% cotton type paper and a plate is created for each color. Because of the detail of the design and cost, it is generally suggested to limit your colors to two or three.

Engraving:

This is the most traditional and oldest form of printing. Lettering and designs are etched into a metal die, inked and then pressed against the paper. Unlike thermography, the lettering is sharp and intricate and the price is costly. If your wedding is one of elegance and sophistication and you can afford the price, you should consider engraving.

One final note to think about prior to sitting down and creating your design is to think about your wedding theme and colors. Do your due diligence prior to your meeting by looking at designs and inspiration boards. This way you have an idea of what you are looking for. Not all invitation designers offer all options but whether it's rustic, traditional, beach or formal, black and white, a hint of gold metallic or blue and navy, there is a printing process that is perfect for you!

It's Those Moments That Make Us Sweat

Sponsored with love, by Dove Clinical Protection Antiperspirant

We've been preparing for a year or more and the day is finally here. From meeting this giddy, newly engaged bride just a week after her fiance popped the question, through the endless hours of reviewing contracts, booking vendors, finding that perfect place setting to finally finding ourselves here on this day. It's the wedding day I've spent so many hours, meticulously reviewing the timeline and details over and over, to ensure everything is in place.

And the day is finally here. It's her wedding day.

My assistants and I arrive a couple of hours before the ceremony is set to begin as we step into a large, empty room. No tables, no chairs. Just a large, empty ballroom.

Each vendor arrives, one-by-one and it's go time. From the second we step into that blank canvas of a room and begin to transform it into the wedding of her dreams, we don't even have a second to think about breathing.

Two hours, one hour and then it's half an hour until that 5:00pm ceremony start time and every detail must be set to perfection.

No matter how much time we've spent setting up, that half hour gives me a little bit of sweat, regardless of what needs to be done and what is already finished. Because without every detail in place, I will not give this bride the wedding she has dreamed up for years. Although I don't get nervous for weddings anymore after having planned and executed them for the past eight years, there is still just a half an hour of time that always gives me butterflies. And during that half an hour at each wedding I coordinate, I begin to "glisten."

We're running around getting the last details in place, lining up the wedding party, not to mention the Malibu sun beating down on us.

20 minutes, 10 minutes, 5 minutes...

And it's go time.

My blazer goes on and I begin sending the grandparents, the parents, the groom and his groomsmen, the bridesmaids, the ring bearer, the flower girl down the aisle. Then the guests all stand as I cue the DJ to change the song to the bride's processional.

It's in that moment that those butterflies come back in full force and I am reminded of my wedding day three years ago when I was in that same position as the bride standing here today. With tears in her eyes and sweaty palms grabbing onto her dad as if she's holding on for dear life, I plump her train and send her down the aisle to marry the love of her life.

Even after hundreds of weddings, I always get those sweaty palms and those butterflies. And it's moments like this that are so worth the sweat, tears and late night planning sessions. It's moments like this that make my job so beautiful. It's the moments that make you sweat, that end up being the most amazing moments.

I am so excited to be partnering with Simply Stylist and Dove on their Amazing Moments campaign, to share one of the amazing moments that makes me sweat -- the moment where I get to help a bride's dream come true and the moment where I get to be the one who sends her off to a beautiful marriage full of happiness and love. I cherish those moments forever.

In their campaign, Dove goes behind the scenes as a real woman prepares for her marriage proposal to her boyfriend (an coincidentally her 12-year-old crush). As a man, getting down on one knee to propose must be nerve-wracking, but when the roles are reversed, well Dove's Clinical Protection Antiperspirant is definitely put to the test! The product offers undeniable wetness protection and has 1/4 moisturizers to care for skin. Watch to see what happens when he sees her preparing to get down on one knee, in the same location they first laid eyes on each other.

Unique Wedding Sendoff Ideas

Whether you're having your guests throw rice after the ceremony or send you off to your honeymoon with sparklers at the end of the night, there are so many fun wedding sendoff ideas out there to choose from. Every venue has different regulations so make sure you check with yours to ensure whatever you're planning is allowed. And once approved, have some fun with it and make it your own!

Here are some of our favorite wedding sendoff ideas. If you like one you see, just click the photo and it will take you to where you can purchase it!

Confetti

It may sound a bit cheesy, but can you just imagine a photo of you and your brand new hubby leaving the ceremony, with all of this gorgeous confetti flying in the air as the two of you and all of your guests celebrate? Well I can, and it sure does look like a good time! So choose confetti that matches your wedding color palette (or those gorgeous vintage hearts below) and it is sure to give you some great shots!

If you're having an outdoor ceremony, my guess is that your venue is not going to allow it but asking can't hurt!

Sparklers

Here's another one that some venues won't allow and if they do, just make sure you have buckets of water right there in sight so your (drunken) guests don't go off to find a trash can and light something on fire on accident....because that wouldn't be the happiest ending, would it?

But sparkler exits are seriously my favorite of all because they make the most gorgeous photos (and videos) and are such a fun way to end the evening!

Glow Sticks

If your venue doesn't allow sparklers and you are planning on an exit in the dark, then glow sticks are the perfect alternative! You can choose one color or mix it up with all of the colors and have your guests send you off with a little glow stick party!

Bubbles

Who doesn't like to pretend we're kids again and blow and pop some bubbles! I know I get excited whenever I get to use some :) The bubble exit is perfect for the end of the ceremony or a well-lit end of the night sendoff!

Ribbon Wands

Ribbon wands are just perfect because you can have them in the colors you want AND they won't make a mess. So there is no venue out there that won't allow them!

Other Unique Ideas

I've never actually seen any of these done but I think they are so much fun! Glitter (which could get messy), sprinkles, lavender, rice and confetti streamers, they're all fun ways to celebrate your marriage!
