A North Georgia Outdoor Elopement

“My wife and I have been attending the same church since long before we were dating. After we started dating, we rode together to church nearly all the time. One night, after a small community group meeting at our local church, we took a detour on the way home. She didn't know where we were going, but in hindsight, I think she knew exactly what was happening. We went to the lakefront of Lake Pontchartrain and found a bench to watch the sunset. When the sky was lit up, I got on one knee and proposed. She said yes, and we proceeded to take a few pictures of us and her new ring.”

“Once we decided on not doing a "wedding" we started searching things like "how do you elope", "places to elope", etc. We came upon a photographer that took pictures of her friends elopement on a mountain at sunset. Once we discovered that, and discovered it was a real thing we could do, we picked the nearest date in which we could actually travel and take a honeymoon and we went with it. The entire time we were engaged (and really before that even happened) my best friend kept telling us that we needed to elope - because if you know anything about me (KeeLynn) I don't want a single show that's focused just on me. It's incredibly awkward. She sent me pictures pretty frequently of different elopement ideas...so we went with it. We came up with five requirements that we had to have in order to make this "elopement" thing work or we didn't want to do it. Essentially, those were the five things that we found necessary in a wedding, and anything beyond that seemed like a waste.”
