"We are Katja & Simon, destination wedding photographers. We are based in Slovenia, but we fell in love with the big world around us so we travel around and discover what life has to offer. During our first travels we also discovered the beauty of photography and the love for telling stories grew into something bigger, something we want to share with you.

In September 2015 we were part of this beautiful DIY wedding on Island Krk, Croatia. The island is a second home to the bride and she was dreaming about having a beach wedding there even before she met her husband. After they met and spent two summers on the island, he took her to the most beautiful beach and got down on one knee. And without any hesitation, she said yes. They got engaged in March and planned the wedding for September. The groom took care of the location, DJ and built the altar (that was made from recycled wood), while the stationery, decor and flowers were done by the bride.

Croatia has just recently been discovered as a destination wedding location, but most of the weddings happen in Dubrovnik.

The bride's dress wasn't a typical white dress most women dream off. Nina decided to wear a simple light dress from Terrani Couture, that danced in the wind with a sparkling bodice, adding some glamour and fun. Her light grey wedding shoes by Guess were a gift from her mother. She added Swarovski earrings and bracelet to her look and combined it every with a simple wavy hairdo with a braid on the side. The groom wore a navy blue suit from Zara, with a white shirt and elegant brown shoes.

The wedding was a two-day event. Most of their friends and family came to the island one or two days before the wedding to relax and help with the final preparations.

Nina and Matej chose a local type of cake called Krcka Kneginja, a cake that was made for royals in the 18th century. The cake is usually covered in chocolate, but they decided to go with a simple whipped cream and some olive leaves for decoration.

The wedding party gathered in front of their summer house, where the groom had to sing to get the bride to even join everybody on the terrace. Then they drove to the beach with all the guests walking behind, which was quite fun and special!

It was an emotional ceremony, accompanied with hot sun on one side and dark storm coming from the other side of the sky. After the ceremony and champagne, we took an old fishing boat and headed to the storm to get some spectacular shots.

The party after dinner went until 7:00am the next day and the newly weds had so much fun, they didn't go to sleep until Sunday night. After the wedding, Nina and Matej spent their honeymoon enjoying the sun on the island and took a two-day trip to the Cres next to it." -- Katja & Simon
