The Fear of the Unknown

“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown” ― H.P. Lovecraft

There is just something about not knowing, that continues to scare each and every one of us. We are creatures of habit and want to know what is coming. Although some of us may crave adventure, we still like a plan, a knowing of what will happen when we get there.

And this fear has a direct correlation with wedding planning. Those nerves, fears, and anxieties are because you have never done this before and you don't know what to expect out of the experience. Well today, I want to ease some of those nerves as I will be giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what goes on at your bridal trial.

So when it comes times for your own trial, you will be prepared for what is to come and you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the amazing ride...and get pampered, of course ;)

Why a bridal trial?

Yes, you absolutely, positively, 100% NEED to have a bridal trial. Now this is not practice time for the stylist, but rather a time for your stylists to get to know you, to get a great understanding of your style and what your wedding day will be like, to bounce ideas off of you that you may not have thought of before, and to make sure all of their products are going to be best for your wedding day!

What if you are allergic to a specific makeup product and you didn't realize it because you didn't have a trial? I don't think you want puffy, red eyes on your wedding day! While is is an extreme example, a trial will eliminate all stresses, as you will know exactly what you will be getting on your wedding day.

Remember, it is the professional's job to duplicate your look from the trial to the wedding day so again, the fear of the unknown is completely eliminated, and you can sit back and enjoy your wedding day from start to finish!

The Bridal Trial Timeline

The Consultation: The consultation is like a meet-and-greet with your stylists to ensure they know everything there is to know about your style, your wants, your needs, and everything in between. The more he or she knows about you and your wedding day, the better she will be able to create your vision! Stay tuned for more to come on the consultation on tomorrow's post!

The Makeup Trial: During your makeup trial, your artist will start with a "lighter" look and from there, she will get heavier and darker until you find a look that is perfect for you! Because if she starts dark, then it is must harder to lighten from there :)

The Hair Trial: And then we get to your hair trial, where your stylist will present multiple looks and take photos of each, so that you can choose which you would like for your wedding day! In Kelsey's case, Dee worked on a ceremony look and then a reception look, a great idea for a bride who cannot decide on one look or for the bride who wants to make sure her hair is out of the way for the partying to come, but doesn't want to sacrifice the "hair down look" that she loves!

And here is a sneak peek at Kelsey's first look during her trial with Swell Beauty!

And the most important tip I can give you to remember during your trial, is to be 100% honest with your stylist. I promise, no feelings will get hurt. You only get one trial and then the big day is here, so make sure you love your look before you walk out of those salon doors!

For many brides, photography is the most important vendor because the photos are what is going to last when the flowers die, the food is eaten, and the amazing night is over. But who is in those photos?? That, of course, is a beautiful bride and her new hubby!

And in those photos, a beautiful bride has been done up for her big day. So in my eyes, the hair and makeup that will appear in those photos is equally as important so you can feel your best! No, I am not saying you need to look like a different person (that is actually the opposite of what I think!), but your hair and makeup are what brings out and compliments your natural beauty on your wedding day, just like your gorgeous gown!

So this week we have a hair and makeup series that will not only show you how it all works, but we have a fabulous hair & makeup on-location and bridal salon wedding company and a real bride who will be giving us a behind the scenes look at the entire process! Now this is an Overwhelmed Bride first!! :)

Over the next five days, you will get some tips and tricks on skin, beauty, and the best hairstyles for your wedding day, you will better understand how the trial process works so you are comfortable when that time comes for you, and you will learn more about what to look for in your wedding day hair and makeup artist to ensure those photos turn out fabulous!

Your Honeymoon is Waiting

Written with love, by Sonia Frieder

Congratulations! You’re engaged!

You get to enjoy this moment for literally only a moment before your mind is inundated with ideas. What kind of dress do I want? What should the color scheme be? Buffet or sit down? D.J. or band? The list goes on and on.

These questions will consume you for the next several months of your life as you plan your perfect wedding...until one day it dawns on you that you haven’t planned the honeymoon!

But worry not! Because I propose the following idea: Wait to go on your honeymoon.

Sure it sounds romantic to depart your reception in your going away suit, getting in a town car, and making a mad dash to the airport as all your guests party the night away…but that sort of thing only happens in the movies and for good reason. That scenario is simply impractical for many of us.

So before you start booking plane tickets, consider the following reasons why you should wait to go on your honeymoon:

Save Money

This is probably the biggest reason to wait. You just spent thousands of dollars on your wedding ceremony and reception and chances are your honeymoon will tack on another couple thousand more. By waiting to go on your honeymoon you can save up some money, or even use the money that you received as a gift, and go on a really amazing honeymoon without worrying about what you just spent on the wedding. And maybe, just maybe, you could even go somewhere more extravagant than you had originally planned.

Time Off

Most of us don’t get a lot of vacation time to begin with and you probably already took several days off throughout the year. So why cram your honeymoon into the few days you have left of vacation time? Wouldn’t it be better to take a nice, long honeymoon? By waiting to go on your honeymoon you can rack up a few more vacation days and enjoy a longer honeymoon.

Better Weather

Depending on where you want to go on your honeymoon and when your wedding was, it might make sense to wait. Maybe you got married in the fall or winter and you would like to go somewhere warm for your honeymoon. Then you really have no choice but to wait. Or perhaps you really wanted to go Paris but flights and hotels are less expensive certain times of the year and that’s the only time you can make it fit into your budget. By waiting to go on your honeymoon you might experience better weather, big savings, or both.

Rest & Relaxation

The truth is, there are odds and ends that need to be taken care of after the reception, so why not just get them out of the way so you don’t have to worry about them.  Plus, all your friends and family, probably some from out of town, made an effort to come to your wedding, so wouldn’t it be nice to spend a little time with them afterwards? You can stay at the same hotel with everyone, enjoy a leisurely brunch the next day, and let everyone ooh and ah about how amazing the wedding was, the delicious food, and how beautiful you looked! By waiting to go on your honeymoon you can enjoy your reception, friends, and family a little longer.

The Honeymoon Won't Be Over

Being engaged and planning a wedding is a very special time.  Let’s be honest, it is a lot of fun to plan the ceremony and reception, get dressed up, have parties thrown in your honor, and get presents. And it’s a little sad when it is all over. So why not make the magic last a little longer and spend some time getting excited about planning your honeymoon. If you wait to go on your honeymoon, you get to have another amazing event to look forward to!

So when you are deciding when you should leave for your honeymoon, think about all these reasons.  But at the end of the day, do what is right for you and what will make you and your new spouse the happiest!
